CeBIT 2008: Intelligent and efficient self-service solutions for the financial industry, retail, tourism and health care sector

The climax of NCR's CeBIT exhibition this year: NCR SelfServ™, the new generation of NCR automated teller machines

AUGSBURG/HANOVER, Germany - NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) – NCR, the world's leading manufacturer of automated teller machines and provider of self-service solutions, is exhibiting its new generation of SelfServ Series 20 and 30 ATM terminals for the first time in Germany in Hall 17, Booth B19. In addition to this, NCR will be exhibiting a new, high-performance account service terminal and its comprehensive managed service portfolio for the financial sector. NCR's trade fair presence focuses on innovative and individualized self-service solutions for the financial industry, retail, tourism and health care.

Overview of solutions for the financial sector:

NCR SelfServ:The new generation of NCR automated teller machines
At this year's CeBIT, NCR is exhibiting the NCR SelfServ product family, a new generation of innovative, automated teller systems which is designed to help drive more revenue by enabling easier introduction of services on ATMs at more locations, delivering the highest ATM availability levels for consumers and so greater consumer satisfaction, while reducing environmental impact. It is also the only ATM to use secure USB technology, which means that modules needed to deliver future services on ATMs can be added quickly, without compromising the security of the ATM. NCR SelfServ uses platform software that allows for automatic reboot of ATMs when there is a problem. This ‘self-healing’ capability means that software and USB communications failures that would have taken up to four hours for a technician to fix can now be resolved automatically in less than 20 minutes. Future technologies, such as contactless card and mobile payment systems will be more easily integrated with NCR SelfServ ATMs, so improving convenience for consumers and creating further revenue generation opportunities for banks.

NCR Branch Assist 18: New powerful account services terminal
The new NCR Branch Assist 18 is a compact, multifunctional and upgradeable account services terminal for financial institutions with an exclusive high quality statement printing capability. Branch Assist 18 offers easy access to Internet banking and is distinctly configured to minimise the steps the customer must take to conduct a transaction. The terminal’s environmentally-friendly two-sided printing technology helps broaden cross-selling opportunities and generate more turnovers. The terminal is offered in both a vestibule configuration or as a small, in-lobby deployment model.

NCR Branch Assist 10: Compact vault system for cash expenditure at the counter
NCR's Branch Assist 10 teller cash recycling technology helps improve branch efficiency and customer service levels, cornerstones of all retail bank branch strategies today. The ultra-compact technology automatically authenticates, counts, stores and makes available deposited currency notes, which are then recycled back to customers over the teller counter. With today’s labour-intensive cash counting process, it is not uncommon for a banknote to be counted by hand at least six times on its journey from the vault through the branch. As much as two-thirds of a teller’s daily processing time can be reduced using Branch Assist 10 technology.

NCR SelfServ Managed Service Portfolio:A fast boost to efficiency and performance on the self service network
NCR handles all self-service solution operations for financial institutes including cash management and monitoring of the systems. On top of this, an NCR Executive Service Manager analyses all your service data and can thus support ongoing optimisation and provide strategic advisory services. At CeBIT, NCR is also exhibiting self-service management solutions from its comprehensive service portfolio that further improve the availability of self-service systems.

NCR Software solutions for improved software security, optimised self-service operations, and success-oriented direct marketing
For example, NCR APTRA Promote 3.0 supports easy staging and placement of targeted advertising for self-service networks to support sales or reinforce the financial institute's branding. Central management functions give institutes more control over various advertising and coupon campaigns, including third party offerings, and thus the ability to maximise sales of their products and/or generate additional revenues.

Overview of solutions for the retail sector:

NCR FastLane Self-Return:the world's first self-service returns solution
NCR FastLane Self-Return enables retailers to provide more queue-busting convenience to their customers during the often time-consuming and frustrating merchandise return process. Self-Return allows shoppers to handle returns and refunding on their own. All they need to do is scan the items to be returned at the NCR FastLane Self-Return. Next, the item is checked for completeness and intactness by a member of staff, and the return is approved. A reimbursement is then issued in the manner the item was originally purchased – debit, credit, cash or gift card.

NCR Digital Media Service:digital messages for efficient customer canvassing and staff communications
In cooperation with Cisco, NCR is exhibiting its NCR Digital Media Systems for the retail trade and self-service restaurants. They support easy and perfectly timed displaying of digital advertising at the POS with the aim of pushing impulse buying, inviting customers to change brands, or promoting sales of new or seasonal goods. On top of this, the system can be used to train staff or propagate enterprise information outside of business hours. NCR provides the multimedia platform, consulting and integration services, and maintenance for the new solution.
